I’m Margo Snipe, a freelance writer based in Florida.

What began as deep curiosity and sensitivity to details as a child blossomed into a professional journalism career. For years, my writing has covered critical issues affecting the mental and physical health of Black Americans. I’ve investigated how racial bias in medicine impacts our lives and identified inequities in the American health care system.

The narrative writing prowess of the Tampa Bay Times nurtured my instincts, culminating in a 2022 SPJ Florida Outstanding New Journalist award. And, my time as a national reporter at Capital B, a mission-driven nonprofit newsroom, stretched my capacity to create beyond measure. In my time there, I wrote Dangerous Deliveries, an investigative series that exposed the regulatory system partially to blame for Georgia’s alarming maternal deaths rates. It was named a 2024 Livingston Award finalist.

So much of my writing has delved deeply into pain, wounds and loss. With me, complexity is welcome and nuance is cherished. I document life in all of its fullness. I unearth truth. I honor the transformative power of the stories we hold within our bones.
